What a year….
As I look back at this past year, I can’t help but count my many blessings. For so many years Travis and I hoped, even wished for a baby of our very own. I had almost given up on having a little someone call me mom. Growing up we have these ridiculous expectations of what our life will be one day. I always thought I would have babies way before I was 30 years old. Then life throws you curve balls and you adjust those expectations. That September morning after finding out we would be parents, was the first day of a whole new batch of expectations. People would always tell us that our life would completely change after we had a baby and we knew it will but didn’t realize just how much. Our friendships, our relationship, our work, our view of the world. EVERYTHING! I feel like we have adapted fairly well and then there are days I am like “Holy Shit how do people do this?” Before parenthood I thought, hey I have this thing called life all figured out. Now I know I will never have it all figured out. I like to joke that “we plan and Eli laughs” but it really is true. Being a Mother is the most scary, rewarding, most important thing I have ever done. Before I thought being a wife was. My two boys are everything and more that this girl could ever dream for! All of these thoughts lead me to Eli’s 1st birthday. What a wreck I was on May 1st. Our baby boy is a year old! After months of late night party decoration making I am pleased to say Eli’s party was perfect! Celebrating with the people most dear to our hearts was wonderful but watching the next generation play together was priceless! Now we can enjoy our summer with our little toddler…..we have a toddler people!
Cuando pienso sobre el último año, solo puedo contar todas mis bendiciones. Durante tantos años Travis y yo esperamos, hasta deseados a un bebé. Casi había renunciado a la posibilidad de tener a alguien quien me llamaria mamá. Creciendo tenemos estas expectativas ridículas de lo que nuestra vida va a ser un día. Yo siempre pensaba que iba a tener bebés mucho antes de que yo tuberia 30 años de edad. Entonces la vida te lanza pelotas y tienes que ajustar esas expectativas. Esa mañana en septiembre cuando nos dimos cuenta que seríamos padres era el primer día de nuevas expectativas. La gente siempre nos decian que nuestra vida iba a cambiar completamente después de tenír un bebé y sabíamos eso, pero no comprendiamos cuanto. Nuestras amistades, nuestra relación, nuestro trabajo, nuestra opinión del mundo. ¡TODO! Siento que nos hemos adaptado bien y luego hay días pienso ‘¿A la Mierda, cómo hace la gente esto?’ Antes de la paternidad yo pensaba, oye tengo esta cosa llamada “la vida” todos entendidos(calculados). Ahora sé que nunca tendré esta cosa llamada la vida entendida. Me gusta bromear que ‘planeamos y Eli se rie’ pero realmente es verdad. Ser una Madre es el papel más importante, más asustadizo, provechoso que he hecho en mi vida. Antes pensaba que ser esposa era. ¡Mis dos muchachos son todo y más de lo que esta muchacha podría soñar! Todos estos pensamientos me llevan al 1er cumpleaños de Elias. Nuestro hijo cumpleo un año! Después de meses de hacer decoraciónes me complace decir que la fiesta de Eli fue perfecta! ¡Celebrando con la gente más querida (bueno nos falto todo mi gente de Agua Prieta) fue maravillosa, pero miradora la próxima generación jugar juntos fue inestimable! ¡Ahora podemos disfrutar el resto de nuestro verano!
Beach Bummin’
Charleston South Carolina is one of my favorite places to visit. I could actually live there but that’s neither here or there. We took little man for the weekend and I believe that he fell in love with Ole Charleston just like I did. Eli loved the sand, the ocean and destroying his daddy’s sand creations! We ate lots of good food at some of our regular spots and even a new place recommended by Alton Brown. I am a Food Network junkie; so one night while watching The Best Thing I Ever Ate, Alton Brown raved over the Cosmic Dog at Jack’s Cosmic Dogs in Mount Pleasant. The blue cheese slaw & sweet potato mustard were in fact one of the best things I ever ate on a hotdog! Out of all the times that we have visited Charleston a carriage ride was never a must but it was a great First with Eli. Eli had more Firsts this trip like eating waffles, mac and cheese and hush puppies. He no longer wants me to feed him or eat pureed food, he wants to eat what we eat and he wants to feed himself. I miss him something fierce today. Monday’s suck for a new reason now, leaving him at home after being with him all weekend is really tough. Lucky for me I took lots of pictures this weekend so I get to see him while being away from him. Here are just a few.
Charleston Carolina del Sur es uno de mis lugares favoritos para visitar. Yo realmente podría vivir allí. Llevamos a Elias sobre el fin de semana y creo que él tambien se enamorado de Charleston como yo. ¡Eli amó la arena, el océano y destrullendo las creaciones de arena de su papá! Comimos mucha comida buena en algunos de nuestros puntos regulares y hasta un nuevo lugar recomendado por Alton Brown. Veo el canal Food Network todo el tiempo; una noche mirando La mejor Cosa que e Comído, Alton Brown deliró sobre el Perro Caliente Cósmico servido en Perros Cósmicos de Jack. La ensalada de col con queso azul y mostasa de comote en realidad son unas de las mejores cosas que e comído en un perrito caliente. De todas las veces que hemos visitado Charleston nunca nos hemos paseiado en carruaje pero con Eli fue un grande Premieriso con Eli. Hubo más Primicias este viaje para Eli como comer gofres, mac y queso y hush puppies. Ya no me deja darle comidita de bebe, quiere comer solo y lo que yo estoy comiendo. Le extrano algo feroz hoy. Por suerte tomé muchas fotos este fin de semana, así es posible verlo mientras estoy lejos de él. Aquí estan unas pocas.
Easter Family Weekend
Eli’s first Easter was a little on the unconventional side but loads of fun! Probably more fun than Christmas just because he is on the verge of walking and really enjoyed the egg hunt. Easter was celebrated on Saturday and my cousin’s daughters birthday was celebrated on Sunday. We attended Easter Mass Sunday morning but that was it. The only thing we didn’t fit into our tight schedule was Easter Egg Dying. I am really bummed about it but with Travis and Eli both under the weather last week it was impossible. I had the eggs boiled but my boys were not up for dying eggs Friday night and Saturday didn’t have enough hours in the day to make it happen. Here are a few pictures from our great weekend!
El primer Domingo de Pascua de Eli fue un poco convencional pero muy divertido! Probablemente más divertido que Navidad sólo porque él está a punto de caminar y realmente disfrutó de la caza de huevos. Pascua se celebró el sábado y el cumpleaños de Victoria se celebraban el domingo. Fuimos a Misa de Pascua el domingo por la mañana, pero eso fue todo. Nos falto pintar los huevitos porque estaban malitos mis niños. Los huevos estaban hervidos pero mis muchachos no querian pintar los huevos el viernes y el sábado no habia suficientes horas en el día para hacerlo. Ashe Mini Vacation
Thursday after work we loaded up the truck, it truly is amazing how much you have to pack when traveling with a little one. I kept thinking…did I pack his bath stuff? did I pack enough toys? did I pack enough baby food? did I bring his sunglasses?
It was a nice relaxing weekend even though Eli has 2 big top teeth trying to break thru. Poor little guy just wanted his mommy and I was okay with that. Being away from home was what I needed. If I am home I find myself cleaning, looking for projects and as relaxing as I find that, I don’t rest.
We walked the Gatlinburg strip, shopped for Eli’s summer clothes and ate really well but spent most of our time in the condo. Eli celebraed his 11 month birthday at Bubba Gump’s where he flirted with the waitress and chomped on french fries.
The Ashe home is currently in full 1st birthday party planning mode, I know Eli won’t remember this birthday but we will. It is just hard to believe that our little boy is almost ONE!
El jueves después del trabajo cargamos el troque, es increible cuánto tiene uno que llevar cuando viajas con un pequeño. ¿Seguí pensando… llevo su javon para su baño? ¿llevo bastantes juguetes? ¿llevo bastante comida para el niño? ¿traje sus lentes para el sol?
Fue un fin de semana de relajación muy agradable aunque le estan saliendo 2 dientes mas a Elias. El pobre pequeño sólo queria a su mamá. Estar fuera de la casa era lo que necesitaba. Si estoy en casa me encuentro limpiendo, buscando proyectos y no descanso.
Anduvimos en la tira de Gatlinburg, le compramos ropa de verano a Eli y comimos muy bien, pero pasamos la mayor parte de nuestro tiempo en el condominio. Eli celebro su cumpleaños de 11 meses en Bubba Gump donde él coqueteó con la mesera y disfruto unas patatas fritas.
La casa Ashe está actualmente en la planificación del cumpleaños de Elias, sé que Eli no recordará este cumpleaños pero nosotros si. Es difícil creer que nuestro pequeño muchacho ya va cumplir UN AÑO!
10 months…10 meses
Eli is 10 months old this month! To celebrate I made him chicken soup which he loved! He is just the sweetest little guy!
¡Eli cumpleo 10 meses este mes! ¡Para celebrar le hice sopa de pollo y le gusto mucho! ¡Él es tan lindo!
Travis
The reasons for loving my husband are countless. What he did this weekend is for sure one of them. For the past 3 years he has taken my cousin’s daughter to a local father daughter dance. I know she looks forward to it all year and he enjoys taking her. This year the youngest daughter was invited too and she was over the moon! It’s a selfless deed my husband does for these girls and I love him so much for it. I hope that when they grow up they find a man like Travis.
Las razones por las que amo a mi marido son innumerables. Pero lo que hizo este fin de semana es sin duda uno de ellos. Los ultimos 3 años él ha acompañado a la hija de mi prima a un baile de hija y padre. Sé que este baile la ilusióna mucho y él disfruta llevarla. ¡Este año la niña chiquita fue invitada y ella estaba muy emocionada! Es un hecho desinteresado que mi marido hace por estas ninas y lo amo tanto por ello. Espero que cuando ellas crecen ellas encuentren a un hombre tan lindo como Travis.
Growing like a Weed!
I never got the whole “growing like a weed” saying that parents used to describe their children until now. Eli is in fact growing as fast as a weed. Not that I like to compare my beautiful baby boy to a weed but facts are facts weeds grow pretty darn fast! Our baby boy is currently 9 1/2 months. At his well check up he weighed 20 pounds. His weight gain has drastically slowed down, before I thought if he kept packing on the pounds like he was we were going to have a 30 pound one year old. My family was betting he weighed 20 pounds when he was 6 months! His doctor has always claimed that his weight gain would plateau after he started crawling and was more active but it hadn’t happened until now. He measured 29 1/2 inches and his hemoglobin was perfect and the finger stick didn’t even faze him. Eli is getting braver and braver; mommy isn’t handling this too well, he tries to let go of my hand when I help him walk, and he is fast! His doctor went over precautions we needed to take with him now and foods he could enjoy. His 2 front teeth are coming in, they look like Chiclets! Beautiful Chiclets! His sleep pattern is still so unpredictable, one night he will sleep all night and the next he will wake up 3 times to nurse. We have managed to get him out of our bed but there are still days when we regress due to teething, being sick or just lack of sleep for mommy & daddy. I am done beating myself up over not having set routine, we plan and Eli laughs! Our peds office started a read a book program so Eli got a really nice book called “Lullaby Moon”. He loves books, I think his favorite is “Jorge el Curioso” that Tata Leo reads to him. Here are some pictures of our little man.
Nunca entiendo el refran ‘creciendo como una hierba’ que los padres usaban para describir a sus niños hasta ahora.(se usa mucho en ingles) Pero Eli realmente esta creciendo tan rápido como una hierba. ¡No que me guste comparar a mi niño hermoso con una hierba pero los hechos son que las hierbas crecen bastante rápido! Nuestro niño tiene 9 meses y medios. En su chequeo confirman du pesó de 20 libras. Su aumento de peso ha reducido drásticamente, antes yo pensaba si él sigue hasi va pesar 30 libras al año. ¡Mi familia estaba segura que él pesaba 20 libras a los 6 meses! Su doctor siempre ha afirmado que su aumento de peso iba desminuir después de que comenzara a gatear y era más activo pero esto no había pasado hasta ahora. Eli midió 29 pulgadas y medias. Eli se más valiente cada dia, él trata de dejar mi mano cuándo lo ayudo a andar, y es muy rápido! Su doctor nos avisó de precauciones que teníamos que tomar con él ahora y alimentos de los cuales él podría disfrutar. ¡Sus 2 dientes de enfrente empiezan a salir, parecen chicles! ¡Chicles hermosos! Su sueño todavía es tan imprevisible, una noche duerme toda la noche y la siguiente noche desperta 3 veces para comer. Hemos logrado sacarlo de nuestra cama pero todavía hay noches que lo dejo dormir con nostros. He decidido que no me voy a sentir mal por no tener una rutina, planeamos y Elias se rie! La oficina del doctor comenzó un programa de libros para ninos, nos dieron un libro para Eli. Le gustan mucho los libros a Eli, Ahorita creo que su favorito es ‘Jorge el Curioso’ que su Tata Leo le lee. Aquí están una fotos de nuestro pequeño hombre.
Valentine’s Day…Dia del Amor y Amistad
We took our little lovebirds to have Valentine pictures made. They are so stinking adorable! Annie & Eli appeased their mommy’s and posed for the camera decked out in red. Eli’s onesie is a copycat from pinterest as well as the one I made for myself. Hope everyone has a perfect day!
Llevamos a nuestros pequeños pajaritos enamorados a tomarse una foto de San Valentin. ¡Son tan adorables! Annie & Eli satisfaceron a sus mamás adornados en rojo y posaron para la camara. La camiseta de Elias es una copia que vi en pinterest como la que hice para mí. ¡Espero que cada uno de ustedes tengan un día perfecto!
